Jammu, Apr 21 : Today Prof. R.D. Sharma, The Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu visited the Department of Botany. While interacting with the faculty, Prof. Sharma appreciated the achievements and the future projections of the Department. Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Head, Department of Botany informed that the Department is UGC-SAP-DRS-I funded and works with the perfect coordination of teachers, non teaching staff, research scholars and students. The entire teaching faculty is well qualified, trained and updated in their areas of specialization. Besides involved in quality teaching, all faculty members are handling a number of National and International Projects funded by various agencies like DBT, DST, MoEF, GBPIHED, UGC, CSIR, etc. All the Ph.D. research scholars are earning fellowships sponsored by various national agencies including UGC-CSIR, INSPIRE-DST, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, Moulana Azad National Fellowship, BSR Fellowship and others which in a way is achievement of the Department, said Prof. Sharma. The quality of research is reflected in the form of publications in referred National and International journals with good impact factors. Later, The Vice Chancellor, had a round of the Botanical Garden spread over 05 acre which houses diverse plant species many of which are rare, endangered and threatened (RET). It also has a green house and glass house facilities in addition to a recognized Herbarium. Head of the Department along with the faculty members apprised the Vice Chancellor that many RET plant species have been restored to a safer status by the untiring research efforts of the research scholars and teachers of the Department. Among others Prof. Geeta Sumbali, J.K. Sharma, special secretary to VC, Prof. Namrata Sharma, Dr. Veenu Kaul, Dr. Geeta, Dr. Harish Chander, Dr Beetika Kohli and Uzma Hamal were also present on the occasion. |
