Jammu, Apr 21: Giving two hoots to the clear directives of the court, wherein it held the SHOs and I/C PPs equally responsible for traffic regulation in tier areas along with the traffic police, Parade area of the city has continued to be a traffic nightmare and neither the traffic police, nor parade police seem to be interested in implementing court directives in letter and spirit.
It is a pity that idle parking is being allowed all around the parade area by the police and traffic police deployed in the area to regulate traffic and mini buses are given free hand to spill terror and lawlessness on the roads for obvious reasons. The road that leads to the busiest business centers of the city also houses colleges, schools, tutorials and Police Control Room has been allowed to be hijacked by the brazen violators of traffic rules by the police themselves.
Irresponsible and inconsiderate parking all along the road joining parade to the Flyover has been a major concern as haphazard parking has become a cause for many an accidents besides prolonged traffic snarls. A police tow away van can be seen in action at times towing away parked vehicles of the civilians, but it is helplessly blind to the Police vehicles including trucks and buses of Police parked illegally outside the PCR.
"Parade Police has been contacted and approached number of times regarding this menace but neither the traffic wing nor the civil wing has initiated any action against these defaulters till now", said a local businessman, adding that the road towards Pacca Danga from the Parade area remains congested throughout the day but police never asked the auto-drivers even to park their autos on some fixed parking slots rather than parking them on road causing greater inconvenience to the commuters on two and four wheelers.
He added that traffic cops can be seen outside Brahmin Sabha all the day but they are making no effort to streamline the traffic. Owing to the random parking outside Brahmin Sabha, the long queues of people crammed like sheep and goats gives weird look to the old city.
