Chander, Ashraf review functioning of JKEDI

JAMMU, Apr 23: The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash today reviewed the functioning of Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneur Development Institute (JKEDI) at a meeting with its management.
The Minister of State for I&C, Power, Housing & Urban Development, Mohammad Ashraf Mir was also present. The Director JKEDI, Dr M I Parray gave a detailed resume of the activities and objectives of the Institute. He also listed the achievements made by the institute to meet its objective 'to create and nurture an overall enabling environment for the development of entrepreneurship in the state.' The Director said that the Institute is focusing on to maintain and constantly improve as a premier multidisciplinary Development Institution through cross - cutting approaches of awareness, Training, Finance, Consultancy and investment in entrepreneurship education and research. Presenting the details of the strategic goals set by the Institute, he said community mobilization, Education and Training go side by side in the scheme of its working. Listing the achievements under various schemes, Director said that 10,052 candidates have been trained under the Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS) in last five years, while 3632 candidates have been provided Seed Capital amounting to Rs 124.00 crore. He said that the Institute has trained 1014 candidates under Himayat Self Employment Scheme during last year and also financed 58 of them. The Ministers, while seeking details of activities of the institute in rural areas, stress on laying more focus on motivation of rural youth towards entrepreneurship, particularly in those ventures for which they could find the raw material locally.
Chander Parkesh also asked for expanding the area of coverage with regard to training of youth by covering inaccessible and far flung areas of the state. Ashraf Mir called upon the management to take regular reviews of the ventures set up with the assistance of the Institution till it is properly established and start earning good returns.
