J&K DGP calls for visible changes, priority-driven action

JAMMU, Apr 23: Jammu and Kashmir DGP K Rajendra Kumar today said there was need for bringing "visible changes" in police functioning and asked his forces to make law and order their priority.
"The law and order situation should be focused on priority and the supervisory officers should ensure checking of their jurisdictions frequently to bring visible changes in the day-to-day functioning," he said.
The officer stressed on adoption of best practises to enhance capabilities of processional policing and better man management for effective delivery of justice.
Speaking at a meeting of police officers from Jammu Zone to review the police functioning in the Zone, Kumar called for "synergy at different levels to make the measures more fruitful".
He sought firsthand reports from Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police and District Superintendents of Police about the measures put in place to strengthen investigation mechanism in the districts of Jammu province.
"Dedication, expertise and adoption of latest techniques would bring improvement in public service. Safety of people should be our priority," he said.
Kumar while discussing the crime scenario in the Zone, stressed to involve civil society and educational institutions in eradicating the crimes.
"Community policing has been paying good dividends in crime detection," he said.
The J&K DGP maintained that investigation of all pending cases should be completed on merits and the culprits brought to justice.
He also applauded the JKP for providing people friendly policing.
During the meeting, the officers put forth requirements with regard to basic amenities for the police personnel and strengthening of infrastructure in their jurisdictions.
The DGP assured that their requirements would be given priority and assistance provided. Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), S P Vaid asked the officers to identify their priorities for strengthening infrastructure in their establishments. He asked them to prepare their master plans under the modernisation programme and submit to the police headquarters for further course of action.
