Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 23: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh, today chaired a high-level meeting to review the status of land identification for setting up of prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Jammu, and logistic arrangements for commencing the classes for the academic year 2015-16. Minister for Social Welfare, Forest, Ecology and Environment, Bali Bhagat, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhter, Minister of State Information, Education and Culture, Priya Sethi were also present in the meeting. While discussing the issues related to the setting up of IIT, Dr. Singh impressed upon the concerned officers to expedite the land identification process and making adequate arrangements for starting the academic session 2015-16, till the permanent establishment of the institute. The Deputy Chief Minister maintained that with the setting up of IIT at Jammu, the students of Jammu and Kashmir and other States will avail benefits of professional education in different fields. Minister of Education Naeem Akhter also stressed for commencing of academic session 2015-16 and expediting the process of finalization of land for IIT at suitable place. He directed the concerned to ensure all logistic facilities for starting the classes temporarily. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Secretary Higher Education, Sarita Chauhan, VC Jammu University, Prof. R.D. Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Mr. A.K. Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda, DFO Jammu, Principals of various Colleges, senior officers of Revenue department were also present in the meeting. |
