Early Times Report

Jammu, May 26: A minister of a cabinet rank pulls a wallet out from the pocket of a government employee and distributes booty to people in full public view in a prestigious institution.
The unholy act comes from nobody, but from the saffron party Health Minister Lal Singh who enjoys second privilege in Jammu and Kashmir government.
Earlier in NC-Cong regime, he was doctors' most loathed minister, in BJP-PDP, he has returned as phantom of the department giving them undue nightmares.
This recent incident of 'extortion' by the Lal Singh came to light at late evening hours when he made a spectral appearance at Govt Hospital Gandhinagar midnight to enquire about the 'patient care' in the institution.
He caught hold of a patient and enquired as to whether he is being provided the care and medicine in the hospital or not.
The patient, caught unaware, of Minister's query, allegedly lost his nerve and said," medicines are not available in the hospital and are being purchased from outside".
"How much did you spend," questioned the minister and after receiving the answer, pounced upon nearby standing Medical Superintendent of the hospital and pulled his wallet out and gave the patient the money he had spent.
Holding the Medical Superintendent's purse in hand, the minister walked enquiring the other patients while distributing the booty to them.
"The minister landed in the hospital at 10.30 am and reached ward no.4. There he enquired the patient about the medicine and did not bothered about the physician who had prescribed the medicine to the patient and the essentiality of the medicine required for the patient and immediately took medical superintendent to task by snatching his purse and distributed the booty," said a doctor of the hospital wishing not to be named adding nearly Rs 5000 were distributed by the minister among the people.
The act of the Minister has sent a very disgusting impression among the people who expressed great abhorrence towards the Minister to have stooped so low.
"Had the minister acted wisely and immediately set up a committee to ensure that state and centre immediately should act and send shipment of non-available medicine in the state, he would have been respected at the highest esteem," said a retired health department official.
The other mocked that act of minister now warrants his daily frequenting to all hospitals of the state and enquire from the people about the non-availability of medicines, pounce upon the doctors, and distribute booty to the patients.
Meanwhile agitated over the high handedness of the Health Minister Lal Singh, doctors who went on strike to press their demands for reinstatement of the suspended doctor Sushil Pandita today, defaced Lal Singh's portrait sketched on the hoarding at the entrance of the GMC hospital.
Going to the extent, the agitating doctors marked the portrait of Health Minister. Doctors, wishing anonymity, said that ever since Lal Singh took over as Health Minister, controversy house in the health department.
Meanwhile, keeping in view the larger interests of the general public and insensitive attitude of Principal GMC Jammu and higher authorities the RDA GMC Jammu and associated hospitals along with historical support of MTA GMC Jammu called off the suspension of routine works in GMC Jammu and associated hospitals.
It is pertinent to mention here as emergency services were already kept out of the purview of the present stand off between the doctors and the Principal GMC Jammu.
"Earlier the Principal GMC Jammu conceded to all demands of the RDA, MTA and paramedical staff and proper orders were issued on the spot and all worthy members of the RDA and MTA joined their respective duties by 1 pm today" said Dr Neeraj Sharma President RDA.
"Dr Sushil Pandita Registrar was reinstated and his verbal suspension was revoked, an enquiry committee has been constituted to look into the circumstances leading to the suspension of Dr Pandita. Meanwhile RDA warned the higher administration of any such misadventure in the future" he further added.
"RDA thanks MTA GMC Jammu, Paramedical Staff of GMC Jammu, for their support . We also received various calls from DAK Srinagar, RDA GMC Srinagar, the Chenab Valley Doctors Association, as all of them have supported the cause of RDA" added Dr Neeraj Sharma.
