Early Times Report

Jammu, June 23: Even as class work continues in winter zone of the state, Government Higher Secondary School, Topneel of district Doda is the live example where teachers of six subjects are not available.
Reliable sources of Education department informed Early Times that current government has pressurized teachers to give hundred percent results but the schools have not been given proper staff.
The GHSS Topneel was upgraded in 2007 and had sanctioned strength of 14 lecturers in various subjects but astoundingly till date government has only filled six posts of which two are permanent and four work on contractual basis. Moreover, the school is headless since it was upgraded.
Criticizing state government for poor planning sources said that this year around 800 students enrolled in GHSS Topneel but the faculty in Hindi, English, Education, EVS, Commerce and Computer Science were not available in this school.
Ashiq Hussain a resident of Topneel said that due to non availability of teachers in such school the studies of students especially 11th- 12th class were affected.
He further said that the accommodation of GHSS Topneel also violates the Jammu and Kashmir state Board of School Education norms. It has one building block having five rooms, one store room, one Labortary room and one room for staff, rest of other three are class rooms.
As per norms that in a primary school the accommodation should have six rooms with sitting capacity should have 45 students in each room but in higher secondary school of Topneel where only three exist at present.
"One would ask Education Minister that how is it possible that 800 students accommodated in three class rooms", he questioned.
"Students of this school are far away from sport education because the school have no sports teachers besides the posts of Laboratory Assistants are also lying vacant since the school was upgraded", another residents said.
Rahul Kumar, a student of GHSS Topneel said that there are only six lecturers to teach students. To overcome the staff and building infrastructure the school administration has kept more than 120 students in one class.
"We are unable to grasp what we are taught in classes due to huge rolls. Besides the schools have no desks for sitting. We have been facing a lot of problems in conducting experiments as the laboratory lacks equipments as well as no Laboratory Assistant available in such school", said Rahul Kumar.
Repeated calls by this Jurno to Chief Education Officer, Doda, Ajit Kumar Sharma didn't pick the phone call. While as Director School Education Jammu, Yasha Mudgal phone is out of reach.
