Jammu, June 23: Though Mubarak Mandi heritage site has already been declared a protected monument a telecom operator has reportedly dug out several hundred meters of lane connecting the site.
Members of Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society (MMJHS) informed Early Times that for the last two nights, some cable operator has been digging out lanes to lay cables, which was in violation of guidelines.
"Mubarak Mandi is already declared a protected monument and according to an SRO of Heritage society, apart from Archeological survey of India, it is also the responsibility of state government to protect the monument", he said, adding that for any intervention in the complex area, prior permission from Society must be taken.
"Any activity without permission of Society is considered as a criminal activity and the culprit must be prosecuted as per law but so far no action has been taken", he said.
Another member of Executive body of MMJHS, Narinder Singh Jamwal said he along with some other members of Society matter shall soon be taking up matter with Divisional Commissioner Jammu, who was made responsible for all monitoring by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in last meeting held on June 19 in Jammu.
Executive Director of MMJHS, Rohit Khajuria said that he had already taken up the matter with General Manager of Bhartiya Sanchar Nigam Limited for digging out the area, without taking permission.
He further said that already there was shortage of employees and there were no security guards on the entrance points of monument. "Earlier there were security guards deputed at entrance points but after Amarnath land row agitation, same were removed. The telecom operator had taken up digging work during night and in absence of manpower it is not possible to monitor activities in night hours", he said.
He further said that though Mubarak Mandi was already declared as protected monument and as per rules, there would be no movement of anyone in the site area but still various types of activities were going on in the area.
