| Will suspension of Vakil,Charak & Aziz impact Congress in J&K ? | | | The state unit of the Congress is on the crossroad of destiny following the strong action taken by the party high command against Abdul Gani Vakil,G.S.Charak and Prem Sagar Aziz.In fact there are many congressmen in Jammu and Kashmir who feel amazed over the way Vakil sent his letter of resignation to the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi,when hours earlier he had been suspended on charge of anti-party activities.
What seems to be intriguing is the way Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has member of the central Disciplinary Committee,had supported the decision to suspend the three from the Congress membership when these three lead ers,Abdul Gani Vakil, G.S.Charak and Prem Sagar Aziz belonged to the camp of the dissidents headed by Azad.
It means that Azad may have gauged the mind of the party high command,especially Sonia Gandhi, berating the activities of the dissidents in the state unit of the Congress.
In fact Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi hold G.A.Mir in high esteem because he has displayed his capacity to keep the flock of congressmen together by organising a number of public rallies and party conventions in various parts of the state.
Over the years the Congress has enjoyed power.It has been sharing power during the last 12 years,first with the PDP and later with the National Conference.
Hence it may be quite difficult for the state unit of the Congress to exist in the opposition.But G.A.Mir has shown his capacity to keep the Congress up and kicking.Since the level of poor governance by the coalition Government and growing differences between the PDP and the BJP the Congress has been provided an opportunity to take advantage of it by strengthening its vote bank.Well the experience of the past several elections has revealed that the region of Jammu has remained a strong vote bank for the Congress.
It was in 2015 election that the BJP upset the Congress applecart by winning 25 out of 37 seats in the region of Jammu.Now that a strong anti-BJP wind is blowing in the region of Jammu, it is time for the Congress to regain its ground that it had lost in the last Assembly election.And for doing so the Congress should have not problem of dissidents.No scope for groupism.
And this is the time that Ghulam Nabi Azad is supposed to make up for the mistakes he had committed in the past by supporting and patronising the dissident camp in the Congress.In fact Azad is being blamed for having supported dissidents during the last 25 years with the result the Congress strength has been witnessing emaciation in Jammu and Kashmir.
It is hoped that by supporting strong action against Charak,Vakil and Aziz, Azad has shown that for him the Congress is more important than a few individuals of no consequences. It is widely believed that Vakil,Charak and Aziz have proved themselves as paper tigers and their suspension may not have any adverse impact on the congress in Jammu and Kashmir. Yes,their absence could harm the Congress if G.A.Mir is not fully supported by the high command.
When compared to Vakil and Charak Mir has been quite popular which is reflected in his capacity for winning the last Assembly election from Dooru const ituency in south Kashmir when the valley had been hit by the PDP wave.By throwing out Vakil,Charak and Aziz the party high command has shown that it has full faith in the leadership of G.A.Mir. And Vakil should know it that by appointing Mir as PCC Chief the party High Command has gone by merit and not by seniority. Vakil,in his resignation letter, has blamed the party high command for forcing a number of Congress leaders to quit the party but he should know it that his stature does not come closer to that of Mufti Mohd.Sayeed or Mangat Ram Sharma.Even if Vakil joins either the PDP or the NC it may not have any impact on the Congress. |
