Bhaderwah, Aug 29: As the history repeats again and coming appropriate to the centuries old legend associated with Rakhsa Bhandan regarding Queen Roopmati from Rajasthan sending a rakhi to Emperor Humayun seeking his help as a brother to save her kingdom besieged by enemy forces, the young generation in Bhaderwah followed the ethical tradition of Raksha Bhandan and observed the auspicious occasion as a secular festivity to its true spirits. Although the roots of the festival of Raksha Bandhan go back to centuries back and was also followed later by Noble Prize laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore when British divided the erstwhile Bengal state into two part to maintain secularism and harmony. But the youth of Bhaderwah once again acknowledged its true spirits and Hindu girls tied rakhi to Muslim youths and vice versa considering them as brothers and exuding faith they will stand by them like Mughal emperor Humayun who rising above the religion basis came forward to help his foster Hindu sister to save her from enemy. During Raksha Bhandan celebrations, the spirits of Rakhi was seen at Puneja village of Bhaderwah town where the festivity witnessed the uniqueness.
"I have been tying rakhi to my brother Dawinder Kotwal' for the past 9 years," said Gulnaz Khan, a resident of Haweli Mohalla, Bhaderwah.
She proudly acclaimed that I do so even before his own sisters get the chance to tie a rakhi around his wrist. In a similar incident one Geeta of same village Puneja also claimed that she used to tie rakhi on my brother Ashaq Khan every year for the last 13 years and it was the rakhi which infact has further strengthened the family relations and our families celebrate all festivals together. Acknowledging the true spirits of thin thread of rakhi, she said, "The festival of rakhi helps us look beyond the petty differences and respect and trust each another as human beings." Humming the similar tones Devinder Kotwal said, "I know Gulnaz Khan will be waiting for me on this occasion and I never have missed a single raksha bandhan to approach her. He applauded her foster sister's family said I enthusiastically participate in each and every festival observed by them (Gulnaz's family) I am welcomed there as a family member. "And I thank Almighty for making two different families as one just due to true spirit of a fine thread, he added.
