Sunderbani roads network rue contractors-officials nexus

Sunderbani, Aug 29: The destiny of roads network in Sunderbani tehsil remain at the mercy of the contractors and the impunity of the officers at the helm which remain visible on ground throughout the year.
Nearly 50 to 60 roads criss-cross through the length and breadth of Sunderbani tehsil, the contracts for which are given to the influential on commission basis which later turn out to be nightmare for the commuters of the area.
Presently many roads con structed by the Public Works Department in tehsil Sunderbani are ailing due to the neglect of the department. The neglect is compounded by the impunity works executed by the department officials who are allegedly hand in glove in the nexus to ruin the public aspirations.
As per the grading of the roads to be constructed on National highway, the measure strength of the pebbles and stones are kept at three inches to give the road a strong bond on the earth.
The enigma of the two kilometers road at Upper Hatjhal Sunderbani is that it has entire one kilometer stretch is washed away while the residents rue that it is a common phenomenon which is not taken care of by the administration.
The apathy of Hathal road is that it has just concrete strength of one inch thickness mixed with mud that sways away the road every year has put the people of the area to all kinds of hardships.
People allege that contractor-administration nexus is at galore in the area where the contractors pay hefty commissions to high-ups to get the works of road constructions and then put in soft material to eat into the exchequer of the state.
When contacted the Divisional Engineer Vikram Singh said that it is not in his notice about th malpractice going over in the area but assured that he will look into the matter.
" I have no knowledge of such malpractice . But if it is there, I would look into the problem and get it rectified," said Vikram Singh.
Meanwhile the residents of the area have urged upon the PWD Minister Altaf Bukhari to initiate a vigilance inquiry into the fault and book the culprits as soon as possible.
