Jammu, Aug 29: National president of the BJP Mahila Morcha Vijaya Rahatkar Friday asserted that the party was committed to fulfilling mission of late Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Addressing a mahila sammelan in Jammu on the eve of Raksha Bandhan, she said Jammu & Kashmir was a land where Mookerjee had sacrificed his life for the integration of the state with the country and the party activists had been carrying forward his mission. "Now the efforts have borne fruit and the BJP is in the government here, which no one had ever hoped," she also said.
It was clear from what she said that she was not briefed properly about the state of affairs in Jammu & Kashmir, as also about what the BJP did to become part of the state government. Had she been briefed properly, she would not have said what she said.
She was not told by BJP leader of any consequence or standing that the BJP forged an alliance with the PDP only after abandoning the Mookerjee's mission Kashmir. She was also not told that the BJP ministers and those in the BJP enjoying ministerial status have been waving the same flag and defending the separate constitution against which Mookerjee fought relentlessly and sacrificed his life way back in June 1953. She was also not told by anyone in the party that the BJP ministers have "polluted" the Pt Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan by indulging in activities within the premises which Mookerjee hated and despised.
It is important to note that the single point agenda of Mookerjee was to ensure abrogation of Article 370 that had (1) created a separate republic of Jammu & Kashmir within the Indian republic on the ground that the Muslims were somewhat more numerous in this state, (2) allowed the state government to have a separate constitution and a separate flag, (3) gave absolute legislative, executive and financial powers to the state, (4) denied New Delhi of its right to take care of undesirable persons and undesirable activities in the state, (5) empowered Kashmiri ruling elite to subjugate the people of Jammu region and the trans-Himalayan Ladakh, (6) declared refugees from West Pakistan persona-non-grata. (7) accorded legitimacy to the sectarian and separatist politics being indulged in by the Kashmiri leadership, (8) barred the rest of the Indians to exercise all those rights which were available to the people of the state, (9) rendered the integrationists voiceless and ineffective, (10) gave Pakistan and other hostile nations the opportunity to question the very accession of the state with India, and so on.
And still, BJP Mahila Morcha Vijaya Rahatkar claimed that "Now the efforts (of Mookerjee) have borne fruit and the BJP is in the government here, which no one had ever hoped". What an irony! She, like other BJP leaders, commended something that had shocked and angered Mookerjee to the extent that he violated the permit system and entered Jammu & Kashmir from Lakhanpur to lay down his life for ensuring the integration of the state into India. The fact of the matter is that she, like other BJP leaders, insulted martyr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on the eve of sacred Raksha Bandhan. It must remain a matter of shame for the BJP which threw its ideology into the dustbin for the sake of power overlooking the country's paramount interests in the state. |
