Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 29 : The frequent videos released by Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani asking youngsters to join the fight for establishing a 'khilafat' (Islamic empire) in the region has been a source of perpetual worry for the police. "We are studying all angles related to Burhan Wani. Once we are done with the investigation, we will share that with the press," Director General of Police K Rajendra said. Meanwhile, sources said as part of the investigation the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Javaid Mujtabha Geelani has called a meeting of all top police officers including that of Army, CRPF and other agencies to chalk out a strategy of countering the growing popularity of Burhan Wani. Wani who is Hizbul Mujahideen's most wanted commander has in the recent video condemned Kashmiris, including personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police, for working against them. He has also asked youngsters to join the militancy and help set up a caliphate. The 21-year-old, who carries Rs 10 lakh bounty on his head, is adept at using social media and keeps releasing audio and video messages. The new video is the latest in a series.
Sources added that the videos released by Wani is giving a challenging job police as all senior officers in operation circles have been put on high toes. "Police is worried about the growing popularity of Burhan Wani and his use of social media and other media in reaching out to the youngsters. There is strong urgency in police circles in stopping this trend," added sources.
As part of this urgency, police have approached court to block Facebook pages glorifying militants to counter Wani's propaganda.
