JAMMU, Aug 29: With the performance of darshan by silver mace of Lord Shiva (Chhari Mubarak) at holy cave of Swami Amarnath this morning, the two -month long annual pilgrimage to cave shrine in Himalayas of South Kashmir district of Anantnag culminated today.
The holy mace led by Mahant Deependera Giri Ji Maharaj its sole custodian left the Panchtarni, the last halting station towards the cave shrine situated at an altitude of 12920 feet from sea level early this morning. The Sadhus and other devotees accompanying the holy mace performed darshan amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and ringing of conch shells.
The holy mace remained in the cave shrine upto 4-20 pm and later it returned towards the Panchtarni on its way to Pahalgam. The Sadhus led by Mahant Ji performed pooja -archana in the cave shrine for the entire day. Earlier the Sahdus took a holy dip in Ganga near the cave shrine.
With the performance of darshan by holy mace in cave shrine today the two -month annual Amarnath pilgrimage culminated. The holy mace will reach Pahalgam tomorrow evening from Panchtarni and next day after the immersion of relics in the river Lidder, the Sadhus will be served the prashad before the holy mace is taken back to its abode at Amreshwar Temple in Dashnami Akhara Srinagar by Mahant Deepender Giri Ji Maharaj.
Meanwhile, 282 pilgrims performed darshan at holy cave today. This was the last batch of pilgrims who paid obeisance in cave shrine on the annual day of this year's yatra. With this the total number of pilgrims paying obeisance in the cave shrine during the two month long annual pilgrimage has touched 3.52 lakh.
Though the rush of yatra was good during the first month of pilgrimage it decreased suddenly after the flash floods hit many parts of country and deteriorating weather conditions in the cave shrine area where cloudbursts and flash floods created a havoc resulting into the death of some people also.
However Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) which manages the annual pilgrimage to holy cave has expressed satisfaction that this year's yatra proceeded peacefully.
Governor N N Vohra who is also the Chairman of the SASB and P K Tripathi its Chief Executive Officer visited the holy cave early this morning to receive the holy mace. Mr Vohra prayed for sustained peace, harmony, progress and prosperity of the State of J&K.
He expressed satisfaction over the smooth conduct of this year's yatra despite the serious difficulties arising from the flash floods, cloud bursts and road blocks.
Mr Vohra gave directives to CEO to ensure complete cleaning of all camp sites and prepare a camp and route wise action plan for yatra 2016, keeping in view the experiences gained though this year's action plan.
He also urged the CEO to launch immediately a post yatra sanitation drive by involving the Pahalgam and Sonamarg Development authorities.
Meanwhile various religious organizations have made an appeal to Mr Vohra and Mahant Deependra Giri to maintain the tradition of immersing relics at Nav Dal, Tral in South Kashmir district of Pulwama where the nine springs of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati exist. These organizations said that as per tradition the yatra culminates only after the immersion or relics at Nav Dal and this tradition be revived.
