SAI STC, Hockey players celebrate National Sports Day | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 29 : National Sports Day was celebrated at the Sports Training Centre (STC) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at MA stadium, here today. All the inmates of the centre assembled to pay rich tributes to the first international hero of the Indian sports, Major Dhian Chand and sang national anthem to reiterate their resolve to excel in the Sports field for the honour of their country. Joint Secretary of J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma and member of the Sports Council, Krupali Patel Singh were the distinguished guests on the occasion. Sharma, while paying rich tributes to Dhian Chand, emphasized the need to celebrate the day with enthusiasm and fervor. He appreciated the inmates and coaches of the STC for their efforts and assured all support to the Centre from Sports council. He also distributed playing kit among the inmates. A Basketball match among the SAI trainees was organized which was witnessed by an audience comprising parents, coaches and guests. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Incharge STC Jammu, VK Sharma, president J&K State Sports Council Coaches Association, Shaktish Chopra and secretary, Satish Gupta. Meanwhile, a function was organized by the hockey coaches of the State Sports Council at K K Hakhu Stadium. A good number of players from different age groups gathered in front of the installation of Major Dhian Chand at the Stadium amidst highlighting the contributions of the star in taking Indian hockey to new height. The function was organized by senior hockey coach, Dalbir Mehta and attended besides others by manager Hakhu Stadium, SP Singh and Jagjit Singh. |
