MM march may not force Delhi to reopen doors of dialogue
8/29/2015 11:32:21 PM
Various agencies, especially expatriates from Jammu and Kashmir and those from Pakistan occupied Kashmir, settled in the United States have started fresh moves to further bring the Kashmir issue in focus in different international fora. In this connection all Kashmiri American expatriates and friends of Kashmir, irrespective of their religion, political beliefs, linguistic limitations plan to organize what they call Million Men March in front of the United Nations. And the date for this big show has been fixed for October 25. Even the time for scheduled march has been fixed at 12 O'clock in the day. The purpose of this march was to persuade India and Pakistan to settle the Kashmir issue through peaceful negotiations. The marchers plan to urge the United Nations & the United States in facilitating a lasting peace and stability in the region. This way the organizers of the proposed march want a third-party or third-country intervention or mediation so that the vexed Kashmir issue was settled. And the organizers should know it in advance of the rally that India has r ejected any third-party or third country mediation or intervention on the plea that since the issue was a bilateral problem it should be resolved through talks between India and Pakistan.
A former Prime Minister of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir,Barrister Sultan has stated that the leadership of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) from Indian-Occupied Kashmir would be invited to participate in the march. "we want the United Nations and the United States to know that a political leadership exists in Jammu & Kashmir, with broad popular support, which seeks a peaceful and negotiated settlement. That leadership is APHC. APHC is ready to negotiate the final settlement of Jammu and Kashmir with the Governments of India and Pakistan. The Government of Pakistan has shown eagerness to accept APHC as an equal partner. The only question is whether the Government of India will join them at the peace table or opt for repression over dialogue, Barrister Sultan warned. This way even as former Prime Minister of Occupied Kashmir,Sultan Mohammad seems to be ignorant about the ground realities in Jammu and Kashmir. When he says that the APHC leaders are genuine representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir he is totally wrong. What is amazing and intriguing is the way even well informed Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Secretary General, World Kashmir Awareness too believes that the talks should be held with involvement of representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir. Fai believes that there can be no solution to the conflict without the participation of the leadership of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
Barrister Sultan Mohammad and Dr Fai should know it that Hurriyat Conference leaders do not represent people of Jammu and Kashmir.Even some senior APHC leaders admit this in private and they have coined a new expression to hoodwink the world opinion. They believe that they represent the aspirations of people of Kashmir. What about two other regions of Jammu and Kashmir, the region of Ladakh and Jammu, where the foothold of APHC leaders is very very negligible. They have never participated in the Assembly elections, except Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who had won his seat in Sopore a number of times. Hence they cannot be considered to be genuine representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir. Yes, Pakistan has,of late, started granting full moral, material and diplomat ic support to the separatists who st and divided in more than three factions. This patronage is being given to lend strength to the separatists who have more nuisance value than any hold on the people of the state. Pakistan believes that growing activities of separatists in Kashmir may either force New Delhi to hold triangular talks or help Islamabad in highlighting the Kashmir issue in international fora. Already New Delhi has stopped according any importance to separatists and since 2006 talks with them have not been resumed thereby indicating that New Delhi wants to hold the process of dialogue with Islamabad without involving Hurriyat leaders in the talks. This way the million men march may prove a futite attempt at forcing New Delhi to resume talks with Islama-bad because India has made it clear that it was ready for reopening the channels of dialogue when Pakistan stopped using its soil for exporting terror to India.
