People throng Dy CM's residence to celebrate Raksha Bandhan

JAMMU, Aug 29: On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, hundreds of female party cadres, members of social organizations, women from different walks of life, school children, destitute visited the residence of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh here and tied Rakhis on his wrist and prayed for his well being.
The Deputy Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the visitors, shared greetings with them and wished prosperity in life. Interacting with the visitors, Dr Singh said Raksha Bandhan is a symbol of sacred relation between brother and sister and has great significance in India. "On this occasion we all should take a pledge to work for the welfare, safety and empowerment of women folk in the society," he said.
He said all the festivals strengthen the bonds of humanity, culture and mutual brother-hood between different communities and faiths and these should be celebrated with traditional and religious fervor. Describing India a country of festivals where people from different faiths celebrate festivals throughout the year together, the Deputy Chief Minister said that ours is a pluralistic society and there is need to further strengthen the rich cultural ethos and communal harmony to make the society more prosperous.
Referring to the welfare scheme namely "Pradhan Mantri Bima Suraksha Yojana" launched on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan by the Central Government, the Deputy Chief Minister appealed the people to avail full benefit of this welfare initiative, which is exclusively meant for women folk. "This scheme is a major step towards the women's economic empowerment," he said and appealed the brothers to give a gift to their sisters by providing them Bima Surksha cover, which will be a real step towards their empowerment and social security, said Dr. Singh.
