Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 3: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti's unexpected statement that "it isn't necessary to include separatists in all dialogues between India and Pakistan" has upset the NC like it upsets the Srinagar-based Pakistani agents. Its chief spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, who is known for his fanaticism, has termed her statement as an "amusing revelation" and said that "the PDP's ideology has now totally and completely merged with the ideology of its ally, the BJP".
"The same PDP that garnered votes on the promise of facilitating talks between the separatists and New Delhi ended up putting Hurriyat leaders under house arrest to prevent them from going to Delhi to participate in the pre-talks consultations - which has always been a routine affair. Under an understanding with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the PDP, the Central Government detained the Hurriyat leaders in New Delhi while Mufti Sayeed remained completely silent and cooperative. Now Mehbooba Mufti's statement has reiterated what was proven earlier by Mufti Sahab's silence - that PDP played an active role in sabotaging the NSA level talks and in the detention of the Hurriyat leaders," he has said in a written statement issued from the NC Headquarters in Srinagar.
"Mehbooba Ji is now lecturing the separatists about the processes and etiquettes of dialogue between India and Pakistan as a moral smokescreen to justify its unjustifiable alliance with the BJP and the RSS. Kashmir Issue is an issue between India and Pakistan and a lot of other issues between the two countries find their root in the unresolved Kashmir issue. If the Pakistani leadership and some quarters of leadership and intelligentsia in New Delhi agree to this in principle, why is Mehbooba Mufti trying to be more loyal than the king? PDP's U-turns are now becoming political issue for Kashmir and could have far-reaching consequences for the State and its people," Mehdi further said.
It is clear what Mehdi said that the NC is not only a mouthpiece of the Hurriyat leaders but also the Pakistani representative in Kashmir. His statement also established once and for all that the NC and the Hurriyat are two sides of one and the same coin and the people of Jammu region and Ladakh have to remember what the NC chief spokesperson said for all the times to come so that the NC got not a single vote from these two regions, the nation's backbone in the State.
By condemning Mehbooba Mufti, the NC chief spokesperson has also denounced his own party president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah or exposed the political bankruptcy of his own party. For, Farooq had also expressed identical views while reflecting on the circumstances leading to the cancellation of National security Advisor-level talks, set for August 24 in New Delhi.
Farooq Abdullah had on February 22 in Jammu, among other things, said: "Pakistan is 'father of Hurriyat leaders' in the Kashmir valley. The arrest of Shabir Shah in New Delhi is justifiable. The Government of India must have thought in the best and larger interest of the country. The meeting of Hurriyat leaders with Pakistani leaders is not a new thing. They have always met Pakistani leaders whenever they came. What has happened is nothing new. They keep on meeting and telling them. As far as Pakistan is concerned, it is the father of Hurriyat. What is new about it? The Hurriyat was never relevant for him. As far as Farooq Abdullah is concerned, they were never relevant. Find those who made them relevant. I never made them relevant. The Government of India has taken the decision that they are not going to allow the Hurriyat to meet Pakistani leaders. This is a due process that has been started and has culminated with the arrest. Others who will travel will be arrested".
Farooq Abdullah had taken the right stand after Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj made it loud and clear that if Pakistan was interested in talks with India on August 24, it had to discard its insistence on talks over Kashmir and talks with Hurriyat leaders in Delhi prior to the scheduled talks between Indian and Pakistani National Security Advisors.
Now that the NC chief spokesperson had condemned Mehbooba Mufti for her changed stand on Hurriyat leaders, It has become incumbent on the part of Farooq Abdullah to throw out Mehdi out of the party as he has contradicted him in writing by questioning the PDP president. In case he fails to take action against Mehdi, it shall be presumed that he didn't mean what he said in Jammu on February 22 and that what Mehdi said was the party's line. No action against Mehdi, and even Omar Abdullah who repeatedly accused the PDP by making common cause with the BJP over the issue of meeting between the Pakistan National Security Advisor and Hurriya leaders, will also vindicate those who say that the NC leaders speak differently on the same issue in their desperate attempt to mislead the people.
