Basohli a suitable choice for AIIMS
Shiv Kumar Padha Basohli9/4/2015 12:25:54 AM
The NDA government announcement about the national level institutions like AIIMS, IIM and IIT for Jammu and Kashmir has sent ripples throughout length and breadth of the state which hastriggered a debatewithin the state as to where these institutions can be suitably established. In democracy every region, district and tehsil has got right to advocate for equitable development, opportunities of employment, education and medical facilities for the people living there because a 'closed mouth doesn't catch flies'. It is obvious who will not aspire to have such type of prestigious national institutions established in their region, district or tehsil. Before giving a final nod the suggested locations in the state are required to fulfill the needed requirements related to connectivity, geographical location, accessibility and the targeted catchment area. Like AIIMS Delhi and PGI Chandigarh the benefits of AIIMS, IIT and IIM are not confined only to the limits of the state where they are located rather they are meant to cater for a big chunk of population living in its adjoin states as well. It has always remained a problem with every state government, irrespective of the political party it belonged, to consider the capital cities of the state as the whole region in the matters of development, educational institutions like medical, engineering, polytechnic, education and law colleges. The beautiful city of temples is too small to accommodate state secretariat, state, division and district level offices medical college, hospitals, degree colleges, university campus, police, BSF, CRPF HQS, army cantonments. The influx and the migration of the rural population of the state to Jammu for availing the medical, educational and employment facilities have crowded the already crowded city of Jammu and has always resulted into crowding of market and public places, traffic hazards, cost of life, price escalations, shortage of accommodation and cost of per marla land. During darbar move in winter the Jammu city becomes jam packed which adds to the miseries of the natives. In order to make city of temples beautiful, clean and spacious the government will have to take strong decision of shedding the un necessary population pressure from the small city and decentralize the focus of development from the jammu city to the rural areas in other parts of the region. The government should give preference to rural areas over the already crowded cities in the matter of establishing educational and medical institutions in future. According to Gandhi, "The future of India lies in the villages". He came to believe that it was impractical for Indian cities to accommodate the burgeoning population in a dignifie way. He romanticized village life as a self-sufficient, simple, free, nonviolent and truthful. For Gandhi, the state of the villages in India was the true index of state of the country. Gandhi's solution was the regeneration of villages through comprehensive program of rural upliftment covering all areas such as health, education and employment. Self-sufficient villages can make today's global village. In the coming days town Basohli, which was once considered as the farthest and terminating point of Jammu and Kashmir State, is going to get the credit not only of becoming the first beautiful city of the state but also the gate way of the Jammu and Kashmir with the boundaries of three states of the country at a stone throw.Being situated at the confluence of nine districts spread over three states. Basohli is going to become the trade and education hub once again in the months to come. Anticipating the future prospects and the geographical location of the town there can never be a better choice than Basohli for the establishment of the prestigious institutions like AIIMs or IIT for the reasons that,
There is plenty of government land available for the proposed national level institutions. The town is known for its natural beauty, pleasant weather, clean, peaceful environment and greenery all around. GeographicallyBsohli is connected withAnantNaag district of Kashmir division via shortest route passing through Bani,Bhaderwah andDoda.
Town Basohli will be a better choice even for those illaqas falling on either sides of Jammu Srinagar highway beyond Udhampur because whole interstate vehicular traffic from Kasmir division will prefer Udhampur Basohli or AnantNaag Basohli route to the traditional route Jammu Pathankot. In addition to the connectivity within the state, Basohli is linked with the district Chamba, district Kangra of Himachal Pardesh and district Pathankot, district Gurdaspur of Punjab. The AIIMS at Basohli will prove a boon for the people living there because AIIMS at Basohli will be suitable and nearest medical institution as compared to the institutions at Delhi or Chandgarh. It will be in the interest of the state government to take initiative in disseminating the benefits of development to other parts of the state rather crowding the already crowded cities.
