JAMMU, Sept 19: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has ordered suspension of Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) Ramnagar for not providing ration to the consumers.
Wasim, the TSO, was attached to the Directorate office CAPD Jammu for three months lapse of ration, sources told Early Times.
They said the minister also instructed the Director and Deputy Director CAPD to inspect the office record of AD CAPD and submit a report to him within three days. If the record was found unavailable, the officials were asked to lodge an FIR against the AD CAPD of that period.
"If the ration did not reach Ramnagar for three months, it was the duty of the TSO to apprise the Director CAPD, but he didn't do that," sources said.
They said it was impossible that ration hadn't been dispatched from Jammu store for three consecutive months. "If there is delay of even a few days in dispatching ration, people take to streets. It appears that the ration was sold in black market," said sources.
"Prima facie there is involvement of a CAPD official in the misappropriation of the ration meant for Ramnagar. The official is manning the flour mills for many years in Udhampur district," said sources.
They said that in monthly statements, every record pertaining to food grains available is dispatched to respective stations.
"The TSOs issue statements of their respective areas when they receive the ration," sources added.
Moreover, Director CAPD is also aware about the ration dispatched ration to every area of districts. Also, the ADs meeting is held every month at Directorate office in which they apprise the Director about the ration sent to their respective areas and how much they require. "It's strange why the Director did not know about the lapse of ration to Ramnagar. It raises suspicion over the Director and concerned AD as well," said sources.
Director CAPD Jammu, G S Chib did not respond to repeated calls from Early Times for his comment.
Meanwhile, CAPD Minister, Zulfkar Ali told Early Times that the TSO had failed to inform the Director that ration had not reached Ramnagar for three months.
"So I suspended the erring TSO," he said. He said whosoever is found involved would be penalized. "Whether he is AD,TSO or any other official, he would not tolerated at any cost if found guilty," said the minister, adding that ration would be sent to Ramnagar soon.
