Udhampur, Sept 22: Panic has gripped in many hilly villages viz. Jib, Nallian, Thear, Mera, and Fantiyal of Udhampur district after frequent sighting of leopard. A deputation of villagers from Jib, Nallian, Thear, Mera, and Fantiyal headed by Sandeep Khajuria called on Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and apprised him about the panic which has gripped in some villages after three leopards were sighted in nearby forest area under the jurisdiction of army . The deputationists alleged that the leopards also have made unsuccessful attempts to attack on animals outside of the houses which has caused sense of fear among villagers who fear to move around late evening hours. "The possibility of the attacks become more as the localities witness prolonged power cuts at late evening, they said and added, "the studies of school children too are getting affected that many parents don't allow their children to cross through forests alone. The deputationists requested DC Udhampur to issue instructions to the Wild Life Department to catch the leopards moving freely. Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary ordered concerned departments PDD and Principal Wild Life Department Jammu and Divisional Forest Officer Udhampur for necessary action in this regard.
