Ram Madhav scheduled to arrive today to strengthen BJP-PDP ties
Undoing the wrongs
9/23/2015 12:18:40 AM
ET Report
Jammu, Sept 22: Former RSS spokesperson and BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav will be in Jammu on Wednesday. He was one of the chief draftsmen of the roundly condemned PDP-BJP agenda of alliance and had played a key role in the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition Government in Jammu & Kashmir. He is visiting Jammu at a time when BJP is at the receiving end.
The entire population of Jammu region, irrespective of political affiliations and religious denominations, is accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah, Ram Madhav and even the top RSS leaders of compromising with the saffron brigade's stand on Jammu & Kashmir, bartering the rights and interests of the people of Jammu region, including 1.5 million refugees, all non-Muslims, and giving a freehand to PDP to further strengthen the Kashmiri hegemony and domination over the polity and economy of the state.
Ram Madhav is visiting Jammu at a time when the people of Jammu region are charging BJP with allegedly surrendering the sanctioned All-India Institute of Medical Sciences to Kashmir, imposing jazya tax on Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage and other Hindu religious pilgrimages, denying Dogra certificate to the Dogra youth, taunting and humiliating refugees from Pakistan and hobnobbing with PDP, which has been hurting the religious sentiments of the entire Hindu community by siding with seditionists, law-breakers and those demanding de-criminalization of cow slaughter and beef eating and making Urdu compulsory for those wishing to sit in the Naib-Tehsildars' examination.
The point is that Ram Madhav is paying a day-long visit to Jammu when the BJP is passing through a critical phase or at a time when it has lost the people's confidence and when the aggrieved and let down people of the province are using a very strong language against the BJP national general secretary, who had said that the BJP broke the jinx in the Muslim-majority Jammu & Kashmir by becoming part of the establishment in the state. Their specific charge against Ram Madhav is that "he played with the sentiments of the nationalist people of the state by allowing PDP to grab everything and implementing its self-rule agenda in a systematic manner". "Ram Madhav is the real culprit. He has ditched Jammu, ditched Ladakh, ditched internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, ditched refugees, ditched the country and created a situation in the Valley which is worse than what it was in the late 1980s and early 1990s," they have been alleging.
The people of Jammu region want BJP to undo all the wrongs it has committed during the past more than six months so that they lead a dignified life. At the same time, however, there is a feeling that "Ram Madhav may ask BJP Ministers and MLAs to remain neutral when the private member's bill on lifting of ban on cow killing and beef eating comes up for discussion in the upcoming Assembly session so that the PDP-BJP coalition Government remains intact". There are elements in BJP who want the present Government to complete its full term at whatever cost as they believe, and perhaps rightly so, that "this is the first and the last opportunity for the BJP in Jammu & Kashmir".
Let's see what Ram Madhav does in Jammu on Wednesday. However, if one goes by what Ram Madhav said on Monday, then it can be said that he is not going to ask the local BJP leadership to play the role the people of Jammu region want. He said: "There is greater understanding between the alliance partners now. Governance also has been improving steadily despite the opposition parties trying their best to create discord and hurdles". The fact that he claimed that there was greater understanding between the alliance partners is an indication that BJP high command is completely satisfied with the performance of the ruling coalition, as also with the performance of the local BJP leadership, including Ministers and legislators.
