Festive mood across Kashmir on Eid eve

SRINAGAR, Sept 23: Shoppers thronged city markets ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha , which will be celebrated on September 25. Despite ban on beef, sale of sacrificial animals and merchandise has gone up as the festival is coming closer.
The city markets witnessed increased rush as shoppers came out in large numbers to shop.
Sheep and goat sale points, which have sprouted across the city also attracted huge crowds.
Eid-ul-Azha, the festival of sacrifice, will be celebrated on Friday and Saturday in the region. The festival is marked by the sacrifice of animals like sheep or goat. The shadow of beef ban, which the religious groups here have vowed to defy, will be witnessed accordingly.
Sources said that people were seen thronging the marketplaces for last-minute shopping, others were seen rushing home early ahead of the festive occasion. Maximum rush of shoppers was witnessed at the bakery and butcher shops.
Most of the government, semi government and private offices will wore a deserted look on Wednesday and Thursday will be abuzz with the shoppers too, said local residents of Baramulla town, sources said.
Meanwhile Thesildar Baramulla, Irfan Bahadur, Thesildar Kreeri Abdul Khaliq Najar, SHO Kreeri, SHO Baramulla Ayaz Geelani and other officials of various departments including CAPD conducted market checking today in various parts of Baramulla district.
To ensure availability of quality essentials to the consumers during Eid-Ul Azha, market checking has been intensified in Baramulla district.
It is learnt from sources that during market checking an amount of Rs 12500 were imposed as fine and recovered from defaulter shopkeepers. Rotten vegetables and open spices were also destroyed on spot. At Tangmarag, a team headed by SDM Tangmarag Abdul Qayoom today conducted market checking at Tangmarag and Kunzer markets, where a fine of Rs 15000 was imposed upon the shopkeepers for violating safety and standard Act 2006 and essential commodities Act, sources added.
