OIC has no locus standi on India's internal matters
10/1/2015 10:27:07 PM
That Pakistan and the OIC are obsessed
with the Kashmir issue became, once
more, evident when Pakistan's Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, reiterated Pakistan's support to people of Jammu and Kashmir who were engaged in their struggle for securing liberation from India and the Organisation of Islamic countries supporting the demand for right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir. What seems to be amazing and intriguing is the way any dignitary in Pakistan, especially Sartaj Aziz seems to be so much obsessed with the Kashmir issue that on one hand they favour settlement of all the issues through talks and on the other announce Pakistan's diplomatic, moral and political support to people of Kashmir in their ongoing so called struggle for liberation. These are two contradictory stands which has not been acceptable to India. And once again India has made it clear that it does not find any locus standi of the OIC in the matter between India and Pakistan. In fact for years together the OIC has been lending support to Pakistan on the plea that Pakistan is one among the Islamic countries in the world and as such the OIC is supposed to stand by any Islamic country. Time has come for the OIC to understand that India has more Muslim population than the number of Muslims in Pakistan. Hence any anti-India stand of the OIC could promote misgivings between the two major communities in India.
Hours after Pakistan's Adviser on foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz addressed a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) on Jammu and Kashmir, India rejected allegations leveled against it and recalled its earlier position that the OIC had no locus standi in the matter.India has made it clear in New York, where the OIC conference was held on the fringes of the UN General Assembly, that New Delhi has a consistent position on OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir and had nothing more to add to it. On an earlier, similar occasion India has stated that the OIC has no locus standi on matters concerning the internal affairs of India or the recent incidents on the LoC. Aziz, while addressing the OIC meeting, had accused India of trying "to quell the Kashmiri struggle by use of brute force." The Kashmiri leaders continue to remain in detention or have been put under house arrest… India is attempting to change the demographic make-up of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir by settling non-State, non-Muslim subjects in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This is what Aziz has claimed. He has made it clear that Pakistan was steadfast "in extending political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir in their just struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination.
Another interesting aspect of Pakistan's attitude is its emphasis on the UN Security Council resolution when, years ago, even the UN top functionaries had treated the resolution as "outdated and obsolete."If Pakistan continues to harp on the UN Security Council resolution it is doing so with the purpose of securing the UN intervention. But Islamabad in general and Sartaj Aziz in particular should know it that, on a number of occasions, Secretary General of the UN ,Ban Ki-Moon had suggested to Pakistan that since the Kashmir issue was bilateral in nature Islamabad should resolve it through talks with New Delhi. He had even ruled out the possibility of any UN intervention or mediation. This is the stand taken by the US and other developed nations. This way Pakistan has been isolated as far as its demand for a third party or a third country mediation or intervention was concerned. In the light of these developments it would be better for the OIC and Islamabad to create an atmosphere which could prove conducive for the resumption of Indo-Pakistan talks. Equally it may be quite practical and politically wise if the OIC and Islamabad stop supporting what they call just struggle of people of Kashmir and also stop using the soil of Pakistan for exporting terror to India. India has already entered into the club of nuclear countries and with the support of all the major developed nations India can display its guts in thwarting any misadventure from Pakistan. It would be necessary in the interest of peace in the south Asian region if Pakistan abandons its hate India policy and promote cordial ties with New Delhi.
