Harassed, humiliated Pandits threaten to march towards Delhi
10/1/2015 11:07:23 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 1: Instead of fulfilling their demands and ensuring their safe and honoruable return to their homeland, the Kashmiri migrants are being put to unnecessary harassment and humiliation. This has generated lot of resentment among the displaced Pandits putting up in various camps at Jammu or outside the State.
The problems of displaced Pandits have piled up during the past 26 years when the mass exodus of Pandits took place and the Government both in Delhi and in the State never tried to make a sincere effort to settle them. First failing in fulfilling its Constitutional obligation both Union and State governments could not ensure the security of miniscule minority of Pandits in the Valley and later they also hesitated in addressing their day to day problems and ensure their honourable and dignified return though every government which came to power both at Delhi and in the State made tall claims in this regard but these claims never saw the light of the day.
The much talked about PM employment package of 6000 jobs declared by then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh way back in 2008 at Akhnoor for the displaced youth has not been implemented and out of 6000 posts only 2000 posts have been filled in past seven years. This shows the governments in Delhi and the State are least bothered for the displaced Pandits leading an exiled life for past 26 years now.
Besides redressing the unemployment problem of the displaced youth, the Government has not initiated any step to rehabilitated the over-aged youth by announcing some self employment schemes for them. The plight of these youth is pitiable as they have no source of income and are dependent on cash doles given by the government.
Another major concern among the community is the failure of ensuring passage of Shrines Bill by the successive State governments for their protection and upkeep. The most of the shrines of Hindus in Valley are unattended and are in dilapidated condition while the land of many shrines has been grabbed and sold by mafia groups.
The plight of the 2000 youth appointed under PM's package is also bad and they too face many problems as they have been isolated from their community over these years. They feel neglected and separated from their parents and children. The deteriorating situation in Valley is also a cause of concern for them.
Instead of looking into these issues and settling them the Government is subjecting the migrants especially those putting up in quarters at Jagti, Muthi, Buta Nagar, Nagrota and Purkhoo to further harassment and humiliation by making further verifications in their quarters through police during odd hours.
Feeling totally harassed the migrants Purkhoo and Jagti said that policemen in civil uniforms claiming to be the members of special branch of CID knock the doors to verify the whereabouts of the inmates.
This is totally shocking said Desh Rattan chairman All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AMCCC). He said the quarters have been allotted by the relief authorities and what is the fun of holding verifications after five years. This way the Government is trying to harass the community which will not be allowed.
Taking serious exception Rattan said the AMCCC has decided to march Union Capital and stage a protest demonstration in front of Parliament House. `` We will continue protest till the harassment to which Pandits are subjected is stopped by the State Government," he added.
