Jammu, Oct 1: In a PIL, seeking establishment of eye-bank, a high court division bench of Justice Hasnain Massodi and Justice B S Walia today directed planning and development department commissioner to release funds for the establishment of eye-banks, one each in Jammu and Srinagar, or appear in person in case of a default. The counsel for the respondents stated that two buildings, one at Government Medical College, Jammu, and the other at Government Medical College, Srinagar, stand identified to house the Eye Banks proposed to be set up at two Government Hospitals and necessary machinery would be installed only after Planning and Development Department makes Rs 3 cr required in setting up of Eye Banks available to the respondents. Upon this, the bench directed the planning and development department commissioner to expedite the matter and ensure that funds required by the respondents were sanctioned and released within two weeks and further directed that compliance be reported by the next date of hearing. In default, the commissioner shall appear in person to explain the delay and disobedience of the court direction, the court ordered.(JNF) |
