Jammu, Oct 1: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today reviewed the status of the ongoing process for setting up of temporary campus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Jammu. He directed the officers of the concerned departments to expedite the process for making the IIT functional from the next academic session, an official spokesman said. Terming it as an ambitious project for the state, the Deputy Chief Minister asked the concerned officers to complete all the requisite formalities for setting up of the IIT including finalisation of hostel facility and stay of the faculty members. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Sarita Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, besides other officials also accompanied the deputy chief minister. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing works of Convention Centre near the State Guest House. Joint Director, Hospitality and Protocol Department, Indu Kanwal Chib also accompanied Singh during the visit. She informed that the convention centre houses an auditorium with a seating capacity of 450 persons, two seminar halls, state-of-the-art dining hall, VIP lounge, CM office, parking facility, Exhibition hall and three green rooms. The Convention Centre is being built at an area of about 50,000 square feet with building cover area of about 8,000 sq feet. Singh directed the officers of Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation and other agencies to expedite the construction process. |
