Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 1: The Congress high command is to take the final call on the beef issue ahead of legislative assembly session beginning October 3. One senior vice President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh congress Committee (JKPCC) informed Early Times that state Congress legislators were directed by Party High command to read the drafts seeking revocation of ban on beef Submitted by National Conference (NC) and two independent legislators Engineer Rasheed and MLA, Kulgam Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, prior to forthcoming session.
He said that legislators were directed to sit together at party headquarters here on Friday and come with a consensus on the issue after thoroughly going through the drafts, so that a final call can be taken whether to oppose or support the bill during session. "Obviously final call on the issue which I believe is a unique of its kind has to come from party high command, so far there is nothing decided whether we support NC or not or whether we will come up with something on our own on the issue, rest anything related to this circulating about Congress in Market is just a rumour," he added.
On the other hand amid chaos and commotion over beef ban issue Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear on Monday a plea by Jammu and Kashmir government against High Court orders pertaining to beef ban in the state. However legal experts in Kashmir believe that the sub-judice nature of the beef ban issue now shall not be an excuse with the state government for not allowing a debate in Legislative Assembly on bills seeking revocation of sale of beef in the state. Matter got public attention after the opposition NC, and two independent legislators moved bills to state legislative assembly seeking scrapping of the beef ban verdict of the high court.
Legal Experts believe that state government is at liberty in this matter and if it wants to amend the law that disallows sale of beef they are at liberty to do so as per their wish and argue that Supreme Court consent to hear plea by state government against High Court order can not affect the working of state Legislative Assembly during its upcoming assembly session. Notably the Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear on Monday a plea by the Jammu and Kashmir government against two orders of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir state pertaining to the slaughter of bovine animals and ban on beef sale in the state, claiming these were being misused to disturb peace in the region.
