Jammu, Nov 15 : To commemorate the birth anniversary of Salim Ali- Birdman's, O P Sharma Director Ecology Environment in collaboration with Botany Department University of Jammu hosted 384th Avian Tree Talk for college and university refresher course participants at Manda Jammu. While taking a round of Manda zoo , OP Sharma highlighted that wild fruit eating animals and birds like Barbets ,Hornbills ,Green pigeons seen in urban-scape help in germination of fig plants like Peepal, Bargad , Goolar , Khinni , Nalei , Phagwara ,Trimbal seen in Shivaliks. Birds are skilfull artists ,nests of Baya is more intricate and retort shaped hung from Babool , Khajoor or Ber trees ,tailor bird has ability to stitch leaves to make a nest ,Lapwing's nest is collection of pebbles near to marshes ,Cuckoos put eggs into Babbler's or Shrike's or Crow's nest , bee eater digs out a tunnel on canal banks whereas Bower birds of Australia decorate nests with colourful materials and birds of paradise have spo tlight platforms to carry out magnificent nuptial dances. Dr Salim Ali nurtured bird studies in India and laid foundation of BNHS .In Kashmir Samsar Chand Kaul documented literature on Kashmir birds like Katij ,Gundkav , Poshnul , Shinp-eepin , Kultonch , Lotraza , Phambseer and others. |
