Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 25: Security was beefed up across Kashmir valley with overall preparations being finalized for the Republic Day that is being going to be celebrated across valley like the other parts of the country on Tuesday.
Security forces personnel could be seen carrying out checking the vehicles and frisking of the civilians at many places in the Srinagar city. Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel could also be seen carrying out patrolling in different areas of the city. Security has been tightened by the authorities as they want the day to pass off peacefully without any untoward incident.
Bakshi stadium, the main venue of the Republic Day parade in the Kashmir valley was virtually converted into a fortress today. Police and CRPF personnel discharging their duty around the stadium have been put on high alert in order to avert any possible militant attack. Sharp shooters have taken positions at vantage position around the stadium so as to keep a tab on the activities going on in the vicinity.
In the Srinagar city, police and CRPF personnel erected barricades at various places and carry out checking. The police and CRPF personnel could be seen stopping the vehicles in the city centre and also at some other places. Barricades were put in place on the Residency Road, Lal Chowk, Maulana Azad Road, Jehangir Chowk, Pantha Chowk, Parimpora, Sanat Nagar, Hyderpora and Nowgam with frisking of the people also being carried out at these places.
Vehicles entering and leaving the Srinagar city are being thoroughly checked by police and CRPF personnel with the commuters facing problems due to the checking as well as frisking. As the security bandobast was increased very few people ventured out of their houses today and those who went out ensured that they are back before the sunset. Movement of vehicles both public and private was also less as compared to normal days.
Although, there is no specific input about any militant attack the authorities more so those related with law and order are not taking any chance with the overall security management. Stern instructions have been issued to the officials on ground to maintain vigil so that any possible militant attack is thwarted. The authorities are also extra vigilant given the recent statement of ISIS that they would 'penetrate' into Kashmir valley very soon.
In Srinagar the main function would be held at the Bakshi stadium where Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon would be the chief guest. He would take salute on the Republic Day parade at this venue. Republic Day parade would also be held at the district headquarters in the valley and at other vital installations. Respective Deputy Commissioners would take salute and the parade would be followed by cultural programme at the Bakshi stadium and other venues as well.
