SUNDERBANI, Jan 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Bank, which is recognized as the premiere bank in the state is fast becoming infamous for allegedly using unfair means to trouble its customers.
The officials of Sunderbani branch of JK Bank are allegedly troubling a guarantor of a deceased person and are resorting to all the ways and means to recover the loan raised by the dead man from the guarantor.
According to the details available with Early Times one Joginder Pal, son of Durga Dass, a teacher in Thumba area of Nalla Makol tehsil Sunderbani, had raised a housing loan of Rs 3 lakhs from Sunderbani branch of JK bank in 2012-13. However, Joginder died in 2014.
Soon after his demise, the bank loan officers, without going into the details of the bank schemes started harassing Sanjay Kumar, colleague of the deceased, who had given the guarantee for the loan.
The bank officers even withdrew Rs 26,000 from his account to pay the instalments of the deceased.
Sanjay Kumar approached the bank and introduced the family of the deceased to the bank authorities. Family members assured the bank officials that as soon as the file of his compensation and government provident fund is prepared they would pay the remaining amount of the debt and clear the loan. They requested the bank officials not to harass Sanjay Kumar, the guarantor.
However, two JK Bank loan officers Vinod Kumar and Joginder Pal started harassing Sanjay Kumar again. Both the loan officers on their own blocked the salary account of Sanjay Kumar and even withdrew money from his account allegedly to clear the instalments of the deceased man.
The branch manager of the JK Bank Sunderbani branch Jugal Verma while talking to Early Times said, "There is a policy of the bank to reimburse the amount of the deceased, as per the records. I would see it is done in time."
However, nearly 100 to 150 people today held a meeting at Sunderbani Dak bungalow to review the bank's working. Most of them decided not to seek any loan from the bank and wind up their accounts as they alleged that that bank had brought bad name to the people.
It is pertinent to mention that if the people wind up their accounts from the bank, the institution is likely to face in loses in crores.
"I am out of station. A soon as I will come back I will take the cognizance of the matter," said JK Bank Zonal officer Masood Ahmed.
Another top official of the JK Bank Sajad Bazaz was also quite apprehensive about the working of the loan officers. He said he would take to task all the employees who have troubled the guarantor of the deceased person. "I will plead the case with the higher authorities. If anybody is found guilty he will be taken to task," Bazaz added.
