Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 2: Editor Gojri, Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Javaid Rahi threatened this correspondent of 'Early Times' of dire consequences in reaction to the news story carried by the newspaper on February 1 with regard to his appointment.
Rahi also served a legal notice to this correspondent in response to the story and said that the news report is false and defamatory. He in the notice said the 'allegations' have been flatly and categorically denied being devoid of any truth whatsoever.
On Monday as the news report appeared in the 'Early Times' newspaper Rahi called up this correspondent from his mobile number9419144139 and started dictating terms to the 'Early Times' correspondent. He started issuing threats to a journalist who has been in the field for the 13 years or so and has all along his career maintained highest standards of journalism.
"I would ensure that you come to Jammu and face trial in a court. I will file a criminal complaint against you and I will teach you a lesson that who Javaid Rahi is? You will have to come to court to Jammu and see for yourself who I am. Would you tell me who has provided you the information and the report you have referred to in the story is bogus," said Rahi while issuing threats to the 'Early Times' correspondent.
The Editor Gojri of JKAACL went ahead by saying, "Let you type the name Javaid Rahi in Google and you will yourself come to know who Javaid Rahi. Let me make it clear to you that I have brought many journalists including some renowned editors to the court and taught them a lesson. Let you be ready for the same."
The 'Early Times' correspondent asked Rahi to talk to the Editor in Chief of the newspaper and make his point clear if he wishes to do so. On this Rahi replied back, "Why should I talk to the Editor of the newspaper and I would talk to the correspondent directly. I would talk to Jehangir Rashid and teach him a lesson."
The Editor Gojri of JKAACL who claims to be a doctorate seems to be unaware of the basic facts regarding the publishing of a story or a news item in a newspaper. A correspondent of a newspaper just files the story and the whole responsibility for the same lies on the shoulders of the Printer/Publisher of the newspaper. In this case Rahi has sent the legal notice directly to the correspondent which is legally incorrect. Ideally and legally, the legal notice should have been sent to the Printer/Publisher of 'Early Times' and not to the correspondent of the newspaper who has filed the story.
Rahi has misused his position of Secretary Tribal Foundation and sent the legal notice served to the correspondent of 'Early Times' through the e-mail to the members in his mail list that predominantly includes journalists.
This 'Early Times' correspondent received many a phone calls from his fellow colleagues about the notice since they received the same through e-mail from official id of PRO Tribal Foundation. This apparently is a violation of Civil Services Rules that are prevalent in Jammu & Kashmir.
It would be in place to mention here that in the news story referred to by Rahi it has written that JKAACL threw all rules to wind and advertised a promotional post some 15 years back and the person (Javaid Rahi) appointed on the post has hogged headlines in the past and present since controversies have surrounded him.
The news report also made it clear that the Academy did not seek the mandatory sanction of its Central Committee, Executive Board of Academy vested with the powers to lay down criteria and method for filling up of Editor Gojri post.
