Kathua, Feb 9: Excise department at Toll Post Lakhanpur foiled another attempt to smuggle liquor into the state with the seizure of the 48 bottles of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) liquor seized at Lakhanpur from a person during a surprise checking. Official spokesperson said, "The sleuths of Excise department today seized 48 bottles of IMFL (24 bottles of Royal Stag + 24 bottles of Old Monk XXX Rum) being illegally transported into the State in a public transport bus. "These bottles have been manufactured by M/s Pernod Ricard India Pvt Ltd., 25 mile stone NH-22 Village Ghollu Majra Tehsil Dera Bassi Distt. SAS Nagar Mohali Punjab and M/s Mohan Meakin Ltd, Mohan Gram Bhankarpur Distt. SAS Nagar Mohali Punjab and are meant for sale in Punjab only, official said. He added that bottles were being carried clandestinely by Nasib Singh r/o Village Chak Ram Chand PO Sunjwan Samba. The accused alongwith the seized liquor has been handed over to Excise & Taxation Officer, Kathua Range for proceeding further under the provisions of J&K Excise Act. The catch was made by the efforts of Task Force of Excise & Taxation Officers comprising G L Sharma, V S Billoria, P Shamsuduha and Inspectors Ishtyaq Ahmad and Rajeev Gupta Tsering Angchok, IAS, Excise Commissioner, J&K Government have appreciated the efforts of the Excise Team at Lakhanpur headed by Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur. |
