JCO killed in accidental firing in Handwara

Kupwara, Apr 30: A Junior Commissioned officer (JCO) was killed in an incident of accidental firing on Saturday in the Langate area of Handwara in Kupwara district.
JCO, Jai Prakash Singh of 30 Rashtriya Rifles, was posted at the Langate army camp, and received a serious bullet wound to his head while performing his duties, official sources said.
"After hearing the gunshot, his colleague rushed towards him where he was found lying in a pool of blood and took him to nearby medical room for treatment," they said.
The 55-year-old was later airlifted to army's 92 Base Hospital for specialized treatment.
The officer, a resident of Shivpur village in Shambahaganj area of Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh later succumbed to injuries.
A defence ministry spokesperson said the officer died due to accidental fire.
