NEET row: Govt to approach Supreme Court for relaxation
5/1/2016 12:27:50 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Government will approach the Supreme Court (SC) to plead for grant of "relaxation" over the applicability of NEET to MBBS aspirants of the state.
"I have taken up the matter with the government and we will approach SC to ask them to see the legal position and I hope the SC will understand our point of view,' Minister for education told reporters here on Saturday on the sidelines of an event at SKICC.
Interestingly, the SC has ordered that all MBBS, BDS and Post Graduate Medical education seats in all Medical Colleges of India be filled through NEET.
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a single common entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses, slated to be held in two phases throughout India.
Government of India has also stated that JK state will be covered under NEET.
The Supreme Court has decided to hold the two-phased common entrance test for MBBS, BDS and PG courses through NEET on May 1 and July 24.
The SC has also approved the schedule put before it by the Centre, CBSE and the Medical Council of India (MCI) for treating All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) for May 1 as NEET -I following which SC observed that those who had not applied for AIPMT will be given the opportunity to appear in NEET-II on July 24 and a combined result would be declared on August 17.
"Earlier education was considered as a state subject but Government of India changed it and brought it in concurrent list but that amendment has not been extended to JK state," said minister
"We are hopeful that honorable SC will take a lenient view for JK state," the education minister said.
