Early Times Report JAMMU, May 11: Vigilance Organisation, Kashmir (VOK), today produced challan against an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police in a corruption case in the court of special anti-corruption judge, Srinagar, Yashpal Bourney. ASI Abdul Rather, son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather of Aragam, Bandipora, was investigating officer (IO) of a case registered at Khirbhawani Tulmula police station against one Ghulam Ahmad Baba, son of Maqsood Baba of Hathbora, Ganderbal, and his son. In his complaint lodged with VOK, Baba alleged that the ASI was demanding Rs 20,000 as bribe from him for handing him papers needed to apply for bail in the court of law. On being persuaded by him, the IO agreed to accept Rs 5,000 as bribe instead of Rs 20,000, VOK sources alleged. Acting on his complaint, a VOK team led by DSP Adil Hussain laid a trap and arrested the accused red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 5,000. The bribe money was recovered from him in the presence of independent witnesses. A case was then registered against him under section 5(2) of P C Act Svt 2006 read with section 161 of RPC (now Section 4 A of P C Amendment Act, 2014). As investigation of the case was finally concluded as proved against the accused, VOK produced a challan against him in the court of special anti-corruption judge, Srinagar. May 30, 2016 was fixed as next date of hearing. It is pertinent to mention that ASI Kabir was forcibly retired from government service on June 30, 2015 vide GAD order No 908. |
