Early Times Report Srinagar, May 11: Parents of the Handwara girl on Wednesday filed an affidavit before the state high court, stating that their daughter does not need any police protection. "At no point in time has deponent, minor daughter or sister-in-law, voluntarily sought police protection or protective custody," father of the girl said in the affidavit filed by him before the state high court in compliance to the directions issued by it last week. "The deponent on behalf of my minor daughter and the family, states that we do not require any police protection or protective custody and we wish to move freely and reside at any place of our choice. We do not seek any restrictions, regulations or surveillance on our movement by any agency," he said, adding that the family would be personally responsible for safety. The girl's mother in her affidavit stated what her husband asserted and attested before the high court. The government said that the girl approached police station, Handwara, on April 12 at around 3.15 pm, stating that she was molested, dragged and slapped by two local boys while she was coming out of a public lavatory at the main chowk, Handwara. She identified one of the boys as Hilal Ahmad Banday, who, according to her, was yelling "Kya Kashmiri Mar Gaye Hai". The other boy, she said, was not known to her but she could identify him, the police said. Accordingly, a case FIR No 130/2016 under sections 509, 354 and 341 of RPC was registered. Massive protests were witnessed in Handwara town of north Kashmir on April 12 following allegations that the girl was molested by an armyman. Three persons were killed in security forces' firing on protestors on April 12, while two other persons were killed in a similar action over the next three days of protests. |
