Eight Govt schools' students protest over 'shortage staff'

Udhampur, May 14: it may sound weird only two students running academic affairs of a school having 450 students and this being not an isolated case, the students of different government schools today staged protest along with their parents against the non availability of teaching staff in their schools.
The students of Government Higher Secondary School Khaned, HS Ponara, MS Lower ponra, MS Sung, HS Kadwah, MS Loudhra Girl PS khaned, PS Soni after boycotting their classes alongwith their parents and locals today staged a massive protest.
The protestors also took out a protest march from Khaned to Basantghar in support of their demands including shortage of staff, non availability of drinking water and even sitting facilities in their schools.
The students along with parents amid slogans against the Education Department for its failure to keep check over the availability of the teaching staff demanded early filling up the vacancies of allotted teaching strength.
Locals villagers and Students while talking to Early Times due to the shortage of staff in the school, the students are facing manifold problems to get their queries solved pertaining to their subjects he said that there is no proper sitting arrangement in the school.
Protestors highlighted that Government Higher Secondary School Khaned has allotted strength of 39 teachers but 28 are lying vacant while 13 are lying vacant out of total 15 sanctioned lecturers strength and two posts of Masters too are lying vacant. They said they have submitted a memorandum in this regard to Education Minister Nayeem Akhter but action is still awaited.
"The non-availability of teachers is jeopardising our career", said a protesting student.
The parents of the agitating students said that it was unfortunate that despite having good strength of students in schools located, the Education Department has failed to check the presence of the deputed staff. They also lamented that that the teachers deputed are not coming to school for the past over one week and there is no check over their presence/attendance.
