PDP denies having sold its soul to RSS or to BJP

Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 14: Hardliners among the separatists besides the mainstream National Conference leadership have started blaming Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for having sold her "soul" to the RSS. Nobody among the opposition holds Mehbooba responsible for selling PDP's ideology to the BJP. It is so because those who berate Mehbooba Mufti believe that RSS may invite deeper hate from people then if the PDP Chief is blamed for selling her ideas to the BJP. However, senior PDP leaders have denied having sold the party's soul to the RSS or to the BJP. The alliance has been forged in the interests of the state.
The RSS is dead for people in Kashmir without any tangible reasons because they have been during the last 40 years told to beware of the RSS which is dead set to sell secularism for Hindutav. And the word secularism or pseudo-secularism appeals to majority of Kashmiris though they may not profess secularism from their heart.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who heads a conglomerate of hardliners among the separatists has ridiculed Mehbooba Mufti and her PDP for having surrendered before the Sangh Parivar and they feel proud in obeying the orders of the Parivar.. The "battle of ideas" and "Goli Nahi Boli" like slogans are not even mentioned anywhere and the "Self Rule" had been buried," Syed Ali Shah has stated. But Geelani should know it that whenever a political party takes birth it plans to rise from the ashes on the basis of slogans which appear dear to people. Did not Geelani contest the Assembly election on several occasions with the slogan that as member of the Assembly he would ensure implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir?
Did Geelani say that as member of the Assembly he would raise pro-Pakistan slogans on the floor of the House and try to bring the Kashmir issue in the limelight ? Did he achieve success? No he did not disrupt the proceedings of the Assembly by raking up the Kashmir issue or by staging a dharna in support of his demand for implementation of the UN resolutions for resolving the Kashmir issue. Yes he did touch these issues in a casual manner and still used to tell those who supported him or those who did not support his ideas or ideology that the basic reason for contesting the election was to get the constitution of the state and India wrecked on the floor of the House and raise pro-Pakistan slogans in the House. He, however, did not carry out any such experiment till he ultimately joined the Muslim United Front which contested the 1987 election and the poll results, which intrigued and amazed MUF leaders and candidates who had contested the poll, triggered a new wave of violence. And Pakistan was quick enough to take advantage of it and started supporting its proxy war against India in Jammu and Kashmir.
Well the PDP has not forgotten its cherished ideology of self-rule. It has been always in favour of dialogue to the use of force but the way separatists and militants disrupt the process of peace seems to have forced Mehbooba to forget about some of her ideas and ideology.
The political and security situation, that exist in Jammu and Kashmir, seem to have imposed certain restrictions on PDP and its Chief and she has not been able to hammer out her old ideologies and policies. Now the separatists and the National Conference are in the look out for issues that may be used to weaken the vote bank of the PDP and the BJP. First the two raised the issue of coalition Government's plan to establish a sainik colony where non-state subjects could be rehabilitated. Even after Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, Education Minister, Naeem Akhtar, and the Revenue Minister, Syed Bukhari categorically denied such plan the NC leadership continued to be apprehensive.
Now the Government's plan to formulate a new industrial policy may also bring the NC and the PDP into a mode of confrontation. Under the proposed plan non-state subjects may be allotted land on lease for setting up industrial units in Jammu and Kashmir. Should the NC and the separatists hold PDP-BJP responsible for settling non-state subjects in the state.
In fact the idea was first mooted by Sheikh Abdullah when he regained power under an Accord with Indira Gandhi in 1975. He had invited some big business Houses to Kashmir. And Bajaj's was the main man who was wooed by Sheikh Abdullah for setting up some major units in Kashmir. The Bajaj Electricals had decided to establish a unit for manufacturing lights, bulbs and other electric goods. As a goodwill gesture the company installed attractive lights in the historic Lal Chowk.
However, neither Bajaj, nor others including Ambanis and Tatas were able to set up their units for which they had made some promise to Sheikh Abdullah. The reason being red tape and corrupt practices being carried out by those who had powers to sanction land and other requirements. Leaders of big Industrial Houses were disappointed and dropped the plan to establish some units in Kashmir. Had they set up some units Kashmir would have been exporting some of the finished products.
One does believe that National Conference and the separatists respond favourably to an appeal from Mehbooba Mufti who has requested them to cooperate with her Government so that the very face of the state witnesses transformation. Well neither the separatists nor the NC are supposed to listen to Mehbooba because being in the opposition NC leadership's job is to criticize the Government.
