| DDA, YDA seek transfer of forest land for shopping complex | | Open violation of Supreme Court guidelines | | Early Times Report
Budgam, May 14: The Doodhpathri Development Authority (DDA) along with Yusmarg Development Authority (YDA) in violation of Supreme court guidelines are planning to construct concrete shopping complexes in the heart of these meadows and for this illegal work the DDA & YDA according to reliable sources have placed indent before the Forest department to divert some 100 kanals of forest land towards the respective development authorities.
Details available with Early Times reveal that Doodhpathri Development Authority (DDA) along with Yusmarg Development Authority (YDA) are planning to construct concrete structures in these two tourist places which are located in the heart of Pir Panchal forests.
Earlier several crores of rupees were provided by the Government for construction of a Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) for Doodh Pathri Development Authority (DDA) and the said TRC building was constructed near Tangnad area of Doodh Pathree almost three years back but for two long years the building remained unutilized and the office of the DDA which should have been ideally housed in the said building is operating from a rented private building located in Budgam town which is at least 30 kms away from Doodhpathri.
" If Government provided huge funds for construction of a TRC building for DDA why is the said building operational only for few months in summer inspite of the fact that three year back this building was handed over to the Government?
It indicates that Tourism department least bothered about development of Doodhpathri in a holistic manner.
The illegal constructions are being planned by YDA & DDA , which have to be stopped " said Fayaz Ahmad a ponney wala from Doodh Pathree.
As per reliable sources the officials who work in DDA mostly belong to Budgam and Srinagar areas and they are not ready to travel all the way to Tangnad Doodh Pathri where the TRC building is located. Sources say that officials of DDA operate from this building in summer months only and just for their own convenience they continue to operate from a private building which is located in the heart of Budgam town for which DDA pays a huge amount of money as rent.
Similarly In clear violation of Supreme Court directives, Yusmarg" is being vandalized by the authorities as illegal and concrete structures have been raised in this environmentally fragile zone.
The construction in the area by local development authority (Yusmarg Development Authority) has caused serious concern for the environment activists.
It is given to understand that YDA is planning to construct a shopping complex on the forest land near the JKTDC cafeteria, some work according to locals has already began. Few years back JKTDC constructed a hotel on the forest land in the heart of Yusmarg which further defaced this green meadow. |
