Jammu schools lack sports infrastructure, ignore affiliation guidelines 7/28/2016 12:16:51 AM Early Times Report Jammu, July 27: Unavailability of playground and adequate sports infrastructure, the students of several schools of Jammu district particularly in city do not engage in outdoor games or physical training, although such facilities are mandatory as per Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) guidelines. Private as well as government schools in various areas of Jammu city including Gandhi Nagar, Satwari, Old city, Talab Tillo, Janipur, Bari Brahmana etc. run in small areas violating the affiliation rules of JKBOSE. Pleading anonymity, a retired Sports officer said that as per affiliation rules of Board every Public, Private School shall be required to have playground facilities for all children on its rolls to undertake different curricular and co-curricular (sports) activities. "It is pertinent to mention that according to SRO 123 of the J&K School Education Act of 2002, the private schools seeking affiliation/recognition/permission should have required one room for indoor games with area not less than 150 sq m but interesting dozens of private schools having no indoor games facilities but are running for years", sources said, adding that Jammu and Kashmir Department of Youth Services and Sports is not even bother to prepare the list of private educational institutions which lack such facilities then what to talk of taking strict action against these erring schools. Sources further said that at one hand government directs the sports department to engage students in sports activities and same has introduce Physical Education subject few years back and the stress is being laid by the government to introduce such subject also in private schools but other scores of schools affiliated state board of school education lacks such facilities.
