Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 2: A scandal, which is called a theft case in Higher Education department circles, involving computers worth R. 4 lakhs has tumbled out from Government Maulana Azad Memorial College Jammu, but even after the lapse of nearly three years, no FIR has been registered by administration. Sources informed Early Times that in the year 2013, during the tenure of the then Principal MAM College, Ramesh Chander, computers and some other items worth approximately Rs. 4 Lakhs was allegedly stolen from Gandhian Study Center of College. Surprisingly, no FIR was lodged by the then College administration and in year 2014, when new Principal took over the administration of college, the incharge of Gandhian Study Center had reportedly brought the matter into her notice. As per the documents in possession of Early Times, the Higher Education department, vide communication no. HE/Gen/Theft case/2014, dated 10/5/2014 had asked the then Principal to constitute an inquiry committee and get the responsibility fixed. Sources in the Higher Education department informed that an enquiry committee, headed by Prof. Ganjoo had enquired about the matter and submitted the report to College Principal, who in turn had forwarded the same to Higher Education department, but so far operation hush-up has been going on in the department and no FIR was registered. When asked the former Principal of MAM College, Dr. Anita Sudan said that the enquiry report was submitted to Higher Education department. "Presently I am in Samba Degree college and unaware about the outcome of the matter", she said. The incumbent MAM College Principal Ramesh Kumar, who was also the then Principal of College, when the theft of computers had taken place in college, said, "There was no specific reason as why FIR was not registered". "By registration of FIR, the image of college would have been maligned, so we didn't register FIR", he said, adding that a committee was recently constituted to enquire into the matter and was still unaware about the outcome of committee. Sources in Higher Education department informed that the Enquiry Committee report has very startling revelations. "All chowkidars were on leave, the day when alleged theft took place. Surprisingly the alleged thieves had a cocktail party in the Gandhian Study Center as chicken bones were also found there. The window pane was removed and not broken by alleged thieves, which pointed towards fact that the alleged thieves were hand in glove with the employees of the Study Center", sources said. They further informed that the Committee report had also found that computers purchased on bills were of I-3, I-5 but on ground there were dual-core computers. "It clearly points out that out of alleged stolen computers, some were gifted to some people and some were sold in open market", sources said, adding that the alleged stolen computers were to be replaced by some old computers with active connivance of some professors of the College but due to some transfers, the issue was not handled properly by the perpetrators. Sources further said that the perpetrators have been burning midnight oil to hush up the whole matter with active support of some officials in Higher Education department. |
