Samba, Oct 14: An awareness rally on promoting 'Clean India Green India' theme was organised at Samba today. The Rally started from Govt Degree College Samba and passed through the town, main market , National Highway, Link road and culminated at Samba Fort. The Deputy Commissioner Samba Sheetal Nanda SSP Samba Joginder Singh Addl SP Hamid Raja ,DPO, Tehsildar R.K Rathore, BDO Monica Thappa, college and school students, police personnel and NSS volunteers actively participated in the rally. Later, a symposium and painting competition was organised at Government Degree College Samba on the topic 'Everyone must be his own scavenger'. The participants highlighted one of the most important civic duties of every individual --maintaining cleanliness around his surroundings. The speakers also remembered Mahatma Gandhi and called for achieving the target of cleaning up the country by 2019, his 150th Birth Anniversary. Speaking on the occasion, DC informed that the purpose of organizing today's activities was to promote focus on 'Swachhta Pakhwada' scheme. She referred to health hazards like diarrohea, dysentery and other diseases which are caused due to open defecation and loss of precious lives due to these. She said that society should not assume that maintaining cleanliness is sole responsibility of the govt and instead each and every individual should contribute at his level.DPO Samba, informed the participants about the incentives being given by the govt for building more toilets. On the occasion, a play was also staged on Swacchh Bharat and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao themes. Faculty members, Asst Proffessors Dr Seema Bhau,Dr Sandhya Rani and Dr Seema Gandhotra judged the participants and accordingly Monika Choudhary,Hitakshi Sharma and Mohinik Choudhary were adjudged First ,Second and Third respectively. The Principal GDC, Anita Soodan and NSS Programme Officer Dr Rawan Kumar were also present on the occasion. |
