Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 14: After remaining in oblivion for more than three months the National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah appeared in Srinagar on Friday and chaired a meeting of the opposition parties in the summer capital.
Dr Farooq Abdullah said the prevailing situation in the state was alarming and there was a need to constructively find a lasting solution to the "political issue" in Kashmir. He reiterated the need for a consensus within the opposition parties to work towards an effective resolution of the issue to bring the state out of turmoil and instability. "Since the Prime Minister has accepted the need for dialogue to find a lasting solution to the political issue, it is imperative that the Central Government initiates talks with stakeholders within the state and also resumes a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir Issue," he said.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It's strange that Dr Farooq Abdullah, who used to talk about bombarding Pakistan, has suddenly realized that Kashmir is a political issue. Terrorists, Pakistan and Pakistani agents are the stakeholders."
He said, "After being ousted from the power Dr Farooq is talking in the language of separatists. He wants the Government of India to hold talks with the Hurriyat leaders, who have taken Kashmir hostage for the past more than three months and are implementing the agenda of Pakistan spy agency ISI."
A Kashmir watcher said, "Since the day unrest has broken out in Kashmir National Conference is trying to project itself as the only alternative, which can rule JK. The NC leaders during these three months made many attempts to approach Delhi and made desperate attempts to dislodge the PDP from the power. During all these months NC has not issued a single statement against the BJP with a hope that saffron party may approach NC to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir."
A politician, wishing not to be named said, "Today Dr Farooq is beating his chest for youth being arrested and is demanding the release of separatists. Someone needs to tell him that when he ruled JK from 1996 to 2002 he acted like a biggest patriot. Out of power he is acting like a spokesman of separatists and miscreants. Dr Farooq Abdullah is a great actor and he changes his colours like a chameleon."
He said, "We should not take the statements of Dr Farooq seriously as he is famous for giving one statement in Delhi, other in Jammu and another in Kashmir. He knows it very well that NC stands nowhere and after four years he and his son (Omar Abdullah) would find it very difficult to regroup NC activists as most of them have changed their loyalties."
