Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: All the three accused in the Channi Himmat gang rape case were today denied bail by Fast Track Court Presiding Officer Kishore Kumar. The accused included Jatinder Singh, son of Harnam Singh of Sainik Colony, Sanjay Kumar, son of Gopal Dass of Akhnoor, and Swarna Kumari, wife of Ashok Kumar of Qasim Nagar. The victim, a student of Jammu University, was putting up at Qasim Nagar on rent. On September 25 night, Swarna took her to her room at Channi Rama, where the accused allegedly raped her and then fled away after locking her in the room. She managed to open the room the next day and thereafter filed a written complaint in this regard with police. On her report, police registered a case against the accused under sections 376 and 120-B of RPC. The court, after hearing the two sides, the court said the rape, being the fastest growing crime, was undoubtedly one of the most terrible, belligerent and atrocious act committed against the dignity of a woman. "Rape has been held to be more serious than a murder as it lays a permanent scar on the life of the victim, the court said. With these observations, the court rejected the bail application of the accused. |
