Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 27: Upholding the Early Times report that the Government was likely to turn down the proposal of hike in retirement age of SKIMS staff and faculty, the government Thursday rejected the proposal and said that young blood will be given a chance in government sector.
Sources told Early Times that the authorities of Sher-I-Kashmir institute of medical science had forwarded a proposal to the governing body regarding the enhancing of retirement age of the employees. "The governing body which met here today with Mehbooba Mufti in the chair at SKICC rejected the proposal and stressed that young blood be given chance in government jobs," one of the officials attending meeting said.
However he said that long pending demand of faculty regarding eradiation of pay anomaly has finally been considered and the process will be initiated very soon in lineage with AIIMS, New Dehli.
Sources said that like other issues, the issue of regularization of Adhoc employees was discussed and the case was referred to Finance Department for further examination.
Apprehensions were expressed against the proposal of enhancement in age of superannuation by several stake holders. One of the concerned doctors who had recently completed the post graduation had said if this will be done the vacancies would not fall vacant to the new doctors and there is every possibility that these doctors may move out of the state and may join the national hospitals.
Similarly the unemployed youth had also strongly opposed the move of the government to enhance the retirement age.
Scores of upcoming doctors who had spoken to ET had threatened to protest if government had acceded to the proposal.
"Instead of increasing the retirement age, the government should give a chance to the young brains," Mehfoor Ahmad, a young MBBS said.
