'PDP rebel group likely to spring a surprise soon'
7/3/2018 10:58:15 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party raising the banner of revolt against the party president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have brought the party on the crossroads.
Sources told Early Times that PDP is heading for the split and in coming days a group of PDP MLAs would spring a surprise by floating a rebel group. "Since the day BJP has pulled out from the government the disgruntled PDP leaders are holding deliberations about how to go ahead with their plan," they added.
An analyst said that if the PDP MLAs leave the party in a group and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly recognizes that group they need not resign as MLAs and they can extend support to any party to form the government. "PDP top leadership had made a last ditch attempt to keep its flock together by approaching the Congress but it has not succeeded," he added.
It's in place to mention here that Imran Raza Ansari, a former minister in Mehbooba Mufti's cabinet and his uncle Abid Ansari have already made their intentions clear by stating that the PDP had turned into a "fiefdom" of a few people only. Another MLA from Gulmarg Abbas Wani has seconded Imran and his uncle.
A source said that even if Mehbooba would have persuaded Congress it would not have helped her cause as PDP MLAs are "busy cooking something else." "The three PDP MLAs attacked the party leadership when speculations were rife about Congress was weighing the options. Imran Ansari opening his mouth at a crucial time indicates that PDP is at the verge of the split," he claimed.
"Mehbooba has denied that she tried seeking support from the Congress to form the government in J&K but it's an open secret why she met the top Congress leaders in the national capital," he added.
An insider revealed that PDP leaders alleging that party leadership promoted "family rule" has created ripples within the party. "A few influential leaders within the party are tightlipped over the issue and have not uttered a word since the day BJP has pulled out from the government. They are keeping their cards closed to their chest and are watching the developments. They day they open their mouth it would be a big setback for the party, " he added.
"The resentment within the PDP was brewing for a longtime. The party President taking unilateral decisions and not taking others on board had created lot of resentment within the party. Now everything is in open, not only BJP, PDP leaders too are blaming Mehbooba Mufti for the debacle of the PDP-BJP regime," said a politician.
