PDP's mission pacification fails
Meeting called by Mehbooba ends at sour note, stir within party continues

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 21: The meeting of the PDP's top level leaders held at Mehbooba Mufti's Fairview residence ended at a sour note with rebels refusing to make any compromise vis-a-vis bidding adieu to the party.
As per the insiders, the meeting on Friday was called to pacify the disgruntled leaders who in hordes are all set to leave the PDP and float their own which is being headed by one of the senior leaders and a former cabinet minister.
If reports are to be believed, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti had called a high level meeting of her party leaders at her official residence in Srinagar in which she urged them not to leave the party and instead strengthen it at the grassroots.
However, the leaders who have made their mind to leave this time posed a tough face before the party president and the meeting, as per the sources, has ended at the sour note.
There are high chances that there wouldn't be any more attempt by the PDP to go for the pacification mode as its top brass has understood that things within the camp are getting murkier with each passing day. "Believe it or not, there aren't many leaders now left in the party who could steer its ship to the shore. You start naming and we could tell you who else is not leaving. Almost everyone is on the brink of saying goodbye to Pen and Ink pot," says a national conference leader.
Pertinently, when former PDP leader and minister Basharat Bukhari joined NC, he hinted at the rise of sycophants within the PDP, stating that the PDP leadership wouldn't need his advice as there are many sycophants who have been paratroopers airdropped in the party.
Also, along with Basharat Bukhari another PDP leader who was among the party's founding members- Peer Hussain also left the party amid rising disgruntlement.
Peer was once considered as close confidante of former Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He was appointed vice chairman of the Waqf Board in 2015. Last year, however, he was forced to resign without any reason. As his son was sacked from his post, he issued a public statement and ridiculed the party.
Ten former legislators from the PDP have so far left the party. Imran Ansari, his uncle Abid Ansari, Abaas Wani, Haseeb Drabu, Raja Aijaz Ali, Basharat Bukhari, Mehboob Iqbal and Peer Hussian are few who have formally announced their decision of resigning from the party
It was informed further that this senior PDP leader is in active talks with other former MLAs of the party and that it has been assured from no less than 15o other senior leaders and former MLAs to him that he shall enjoy their full support.
It is yet to be seen that when the announcement in this regard is going to be made but at present, it is the worst ever political chaos being witnessed in the state and ahead of the assembly elections, things are likely to take the final shape.
