12/21/2018 10:28:52 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 21: At least 61 professors and associate professors working in Higher Education department have reportedly been burning midnight oil to fix a deal with the administration for enhancement of their retirement age, keeping aside the concerns of thousands of highly qualified unemployed youth.
Sources informed Early Times that these 61 professors and associate professors were scheduled to retire in 2019. However, it has come to fore that they are ready to pay hefty sum for getting retirement age enhanced. Pertinent to mention these professors get around Rs 2 lakhs per month.
A total of 16 College Professors, who are confirmed Principals are going to retire in year 2019. These professors include Dr Kiran Bakshi, Z.A Chatt, Dr. Hemla Agarwal, Dr Satinder Singh, Dr Banwari Lal, Dr NA Charag, Shabir Hussain Shah, Dr. Asha Gupta, Dr Kalpna Kesar, Dr. PK Sharma, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Yatoo, Abdul Rehman Bhat, Dr Kuldeep Raj, Dr Abdul Majeed Dar, Shaheen Altaf Matoo and Dr Rafiya Rashid.
Moreover a total of 45 faculty members including Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Librarians, PTIs are also schedule to retire in 2019.
Normally a Principal gets Rs 2 Lakhs monthly salary and some Principals get even more than Rs. 2 Lakh. "An increase of two years', means a Principal will get Rs. 48 Lakhs as salary in two years. While a college Principal also gets huge share from college funds, which runs in several Crores", an official said, adding that even these Professors were also entitled to get huge pensions after their retirement but still they were reluctant to get retired.
"Their pension will only increase in next two years and if their age will not be enhanced, in a salary of Principal that is in Rs. 2 Lakhs, salary of four Assistant Professors can be managed and even the APs are not entitled to get pension", an official said, adding that even engaging new Assistant Professors would only benefit the government as well reduce the large army of unemployed qualified youth.
Though the official working in the civil secretariat is usually slow, but these professors and Associate professors have managed to move their file of retirement age' enhancement from 60 to 62 years, very fast, sources said, adding that presently the file has reached to Finance department for its nod.
"Some of the ambitious Principals, who don't want to lost their posts at any cost, are trying to fix a deal with various administrative wings and are ready to spend few Crores of rupees to get the nod of government", sources said, adding that but the Governor administration must not budge under the pressure of the retiring principals and should take decision in the interest of youth of the state.
