Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 22: Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) are being set up in educational institutions in the Jammu & Kashmir State in a bid to attract the youth to the democratic process and encourage them to exercise their franchise. Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Shailendra Kumar addressed the students through the Jammu Kashmir Knowledge Network (JKKN), an initiative to connect school children of J&K to world of Knowledge through internet. Near about 4000 students of 100 schools of district Udhampur, Reasi, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch joined and interacted with CEO J&K through this network. The detailed presentation was given to all students about the ELCs and their functioning in schools, how and when to get enrolled as voter after attaining the age of 18 years through online portal www.nvsp.in or by visiting in AERO/ERO offices and regarding the celebration of forthcoming 9th National Voters Day being celebrated on 25thJanuary 2019. Elaborating further, Shailendra Kumar said that the Electoral Literacy Clubs are being set up with the aim of increasing the voter participation to 100%. Those who turned 18 on January, 1st this year could enrol themselves on the voters' list ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, he added. |
